Tinnitus

Tinnitus is the term for hearing sounds that come from inside your body, rather than from an outside source.  It’s often described as “ringing in the ears”, although several sounds can be heard.  Some people may hear sounds similar to music or singing, and others hear noises that beat in time with their pulse.

Tinnitus is rarely a sign of a serious underlying condition. For some people it may come and go and only be a minor irritation.  However, it can sometimes be continuous and have a significant impact on everyday life.  It’s important to seek medical advice to check if an underlying cause can be found and treated, and to help you find ways to cope with the problem.  You should visit your GP if you continually or regularly hear sounds such as buzzing, ringing or humming in your ears.

How can hypnosis help with tinnitus?

If a specific cause of your tinnitus cannot be found, hypnosis will help to manage the condition on a daily basis.  The main idea behind hypnosis is that the mind and body work together and cannot be separated. Through hypnosis you can use the subconscious mind to help resolve body issues. It’s simple, safe, effective and has no side effects.

Hypnotherapy aims to help change the way you think about your tinnitus so it becomes less noticeable.  Hypnosis is one of the best ways of reducing tinnitus volume, as well as, the stress and depression that normally accompany tinnitus.

This hypnotic tinnitus treatment works in a three ways. It will:

1 – Induce deep and profound relaxation to work directly on stress levels to help you overcome the anxiety you experience as a result of the tinnitus.

2 – Give you “learning sessions” based on relaxation and mental imaging.  Focused on hearing, you imagine controling a dial and adjusting the sound and tinnitus intensity very gradually downwards so you are considerably less troubled.

3 – Reprogramme your mind on how it listens to the tinnitus, making you less sensitive to the tinnitus sounds themselves.

I will also teach you self-hypnosis skills, so that you will focus on breathing and relaxation techniques to remove tension, nervousness and anxiety..

This type of therapy works because it accomplishes two vital things. First, it removes the negative association attached to the tinnitus. Secondly, it helps you accustom quicker to the annoying noise in your ears. By removing these two items, you will find yourself considerably less troubled by your tinnitus and may, over time, even find that the tinnitus sound has gone away.
